This course aims to develop an appreciation and
understanding of the theory and practice of research in
health and social care, highlighting the important place of
research in professional practice. Participants will develop
skills in literature searching, critical appraisal, research
proposal construction, data gathering and analysis, and
research report writing, through the execution of a
small-scale research project relevant to their practice.
Particular emphasis is placed on ethical issues and the
Research Governance Framework. This course is
offered in
partnership with and validated by the University of
Gloucestershire and runs for one academic year. It will
take the form of both classroom and private study days,
taking place on a weekly basis on Tuesdays. Successful completion will
lead to a Diploma in Research Methods with a CATS rating
of 60 points at level III, which could be used towards an
honours degree. Those who already hold a first degree
could use the Diploma as initial preparation for a
Master’s Degree by Research.
