Encouraging Communication in People with Learning Disabilities

This three-day course meets the knowledge requirements of one of the 10 Mandatory Units for LDAF at Levels 2 and 3. The course focuses on understanding how relationships, social contexts and cultural norms can affect communication. It includes how the need for help with communication might be identified and accessed, how to use referential and augmented communication, and examines issues about communication through physical contact.

 

The course also considers how candidates should offer support to people who are distressed, and how to manage their own feelings which may be generated by the situation.

 

The course is open to candidates from the Partnership Trust, the three PCTs, Gloucestershire Social Services, private and voluntary services.

 

Course fees for private and voluntary services are detailed at the back of this directory.

 

Meets knowledge requirements of LDAF Units:

 

Mandatory - Levels 2 & 3:

005 - Encourage communication (Double Unit)

 

Optional - Level 3:

123 - Support service users’ use of augmented communication

 

Shares knowledge requirements with NVQ Units & Occupational Standards:
