Being able to perform effective Adult Basic Life Support is now
an essential skill in saving lives by buying time until a
defibrillator and/or Emergency Services arrive. Due to this
it is recognised that as many people as possible should be
trained in this technique.
This course has been designed to provide
training to key members of staff within the Community who
would like to take on the role of Cascade Trainer for Adult Basic
Life Support within their working environment.
The course is taught over 2 days followed by supervised teaching sessions and addresses the following
areas:
- Adult Basic Life Support - update and practice
- Assessment of Adult Basic Life Support Skills
- Teaching a skill - theory and practice
- ABLS Teaching practice
- Assessment of teaching ABLS
- Problems arising during training.
- Cleaning and maintaining equipment.
- Commonly asked questions
- Programme administration
Existing Cascade Trainers new to this programme are
required to attend the initial two day course. On successful completion the Cascade Trainer would be in
a position to update the staff in their area every 6 months
to 1 year.
A one-day update course will be arranged
annually to maintain adult basic life support skills and refresh
teaching skills. Course facilitators Alan Keyte
