This three- or four-day course is for staff who
have been nominated by their manager to become Keyworkers
for manual handling. They will gain knowledge in theoretical
and practical aspects relating to the subject under the
Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992. 3
Days For Non-Patient Handlers, 4 Days For Patient Handlers
Objectives Participants will be able to:
- Identify, assess, select and develop strategies to
reduce the incidence of manual handling tasks and their
associated risks and to effectively cascade the training
to work colleagues.

- Legal requirements and Trust policy
- Problem solving
- Anatomy and physiology of the spine
- Teaching skills
- Principles of safe handling techniques
- Making an assessment
- Practical work
- Responsibilities of Keyworkers
- Identifying risk factors
Note: Those with a recognised teaching qualification
may not need to do the teaching skills assessment
(please check on booking). On successful completion of
the course participants will be given a certificate of
attendance. It is recommended that ALL Keyworkers attend
an update session annually. Course
